The power of human curiosity
Originally written in Russian.
sometimes it blows my mind how far humanity has come
once, we had nothing but stones, sticks and fire. today we launch rockets into space, build artificial intelligence that can solve incredibly difficult problems, and are literally learning to shape nature itself
and all of this began with one incredibly simple thing: human curiosity
someone once looked at fire and wanted to understand how it worked. someone watched birds and wondered why humans couldn't fly. someone simply refused to accept the world as it was
what amazes me most is that almost everything we take for granted today was once someone's completely crazy idea
we live in a world built by people who refused to accept its limits
and that's probably what draws me to science, technology and entrepreneurship more than anything else
the chance to help create this world, rather than just exist in it
i honestly don't understand people who think everything has already been invented and discovered. we might still be at the very beginning of humanity's technological development
think about it: in just a few generations, we went from the first aeroplanes to landing on the Moon, from enormous computers to AI that anyone can talk to
what happens in another 50 years? another 100? which things that seem impossible today will become completely ordinary?
and the best part is that the answers are being created right now by ordinary people like you and me
so i think one of the most important things to hold on to throughout your life is the ability to be amazed, to ask questions, and to refuse to accept that something is impossible
because the future doesn't just happen. people create it because, at some point, they got curious: “what if?”
and i really want to be one of those people
